Company Profile
Jeep’s story began in 1941 when Willys-Overland, an American automaker, designed and manufactured Willys MB, a lightweight, all-terrain vehicle, for the US Army. It became known as the Jeep. Post the Second World War in 1945, Willys-Overland launched Jeep branded models like CJ-3B and CJ-5 for civilian purposes.
In the year 1953, Kaiser Motors acquired Willys-Overland and renamed it Kaiser-Jeep. In the year 1963, Jeep launched its first SUV model, Wagoneer. The brand also diversified to pickup trucks with models like Gladiator in the 1960s. In the year 1970, American Motor Corporation acquired Kaiser Motors. Under AMC, Jeep introduced Cherokee in 1974, followed by Jeep Cherokee in 1984. Chrysler acquired AMC in 1987, thereby bringing Jeep under its umbrella. Fiat took control of Chrysler in 2009, form FCA. FCA merged with PSA Group in 2021, forming Stellantis.
Jeep is a global leader in the SUV and off-road vehicle segment. The brand’s sales stood at 1.2 million units in the year 2024, with United States as its major market. Jeep is investing in electrification, with its upcoming models of fully-electric SUVs, Wagoneer S and Jeep Recon, likely to be launched in 2026.
