Van Heusen traces its origins to the year 1881 when Moses Philips and his wife Endel began sewing and selling woolen shirts in Pottsville, Pennsylvania, United States. Their son Issac Phillips relocated the business to New York in 1910. In the year 1919, Phillips partnered with John Manning Van Heusen to form Phillips-Van Heusen Alliance.

Van Heuse collars were launched in the year 1921 by Phillips Van Heusen Alliance. The company introduced collar-attached shirts in the year 1929. By the 1950s, PVA had become a major shirt manufacturer. PVA was renamed Phillips Van Heusen Corporation in 1957. Van Heusen became the world’s largest selling dress shirt brand in 2005. PVH Corporation sold Van Heusen brand to Authentic Brands in 2021.

Van Heusen currently has a network of more than 300 standalone stores, with over $1 billion in retail sales. Major regional licence holders of Van Heusen brand are Aditya Birla Fashion and Retail Limited in India and Gazal Corporation Limited in Australia.
