Yonex was founded in the year 1946 by Minoru Yoneyama as Yoneyama Seisakusho. It started operations by producing wooden floats for fishing nets, before shifting to wooden racquets in the year 1957. The company was renamed Yoneyama Company Limited and started exporting badminton racquets in the year 1961. It introduced aluminium badminton racquets in 1961, followed by aluminium tennis racquets in 1971.
The brand name Yonex was adopted in the year 1974. Subsequently, the company launched graphite-based badminton racquets in 1979, REX-Series of oversized tennis racquets in 1982, graphite-shafted golf clubs in 1984 and Isometric 500 racquets in 1992. Yonex expanded to footwear, apparel and accessories and also launched innovative technologies like Aero Frame and NanoAir for high-performance racquets in the 2000s.
