Company Profile
Mazda was founded on 30th January 1920 as Tokyo Cork Kogyo Company Limited by Jujiro Matsuda. It started as a manufacturer of cork for industrial applications. In the year 1927, it shifted to machine tools and metalwork, and was renamed Tokyo Kogo Company Limited. The company entered vehicle production in 1931 by launching Mazda-Go, a three-wheeled rickshaw. Subsequently, it diversified to trucks and motorcycles.
The company launched its first passenger car, Mazda 360, in the year 1960. In the year 1967, it introduced world’s first dual-rotor powered car, named Cosmo Sport (110S). During the 1980s, the company launched newer passenger car models like 323 and 636, with a focus on Europe and North America. The company was renamed Mazda Motor Corporation in 1984.
Mazda operates manufacturing facilities in Japan, Mexico, Thailand and the United States. The company has formed an alliance with Toyota to manufacture electric, hybrid and hydrogen vehicles. MX-30 is Mazda’s first electric vehicle model. Mazda is also partnering with Changan Automobiles for EV production in China.
