Company Profile
Jawa was founded in the 1929 by a Czech engineer named Frantisek Janecek who created the company by buying the motorcycles division of a German company, Wanderer. Jawa launched its first model in October 1929. In the 1930s, the company became a top European exporter of motorcycles, mainly on the back of its lightweight and economical models like Jawa 175.
Jawa was nationalised in the year 1945. Subsequently, the company started manufacturing 250cc and 350cc models, with exports to 120 countries. In the year 1960, Jawa started manufacturing in India through its subsidiary Ideal Jawa Limited, which produced popular models like Jawa 250 and Yezdi variants.
Jawa Moto is currently engaged in core research and development, prototyping and heritage production of motorcycles. However, the major production hub of Jawa Yezdi motorcycles is India where Classic Legends, a subsidiary of Mahindra and Mahindra, has been engaged in manufacturing the motorcycles under licence since 2018.
Origin Country
Jawa Moto has its origins in Czechoslovakia where it was founded. Even though the brand remains Czech, its production and sales are handled by an Indian company, Classic Legends Private Limited, under the overall ownership of Mahindra and Mahindra, an Indian multinational conglomerate.
Market Cap
Jawa Moto doesn’t have a publicly disclosed market capitalisation and is not listed on any stock exchange. However, since Jawa motorcycles are manufactured by a subsidiary of Mahindra and Mahindra, its valuation is embedded in the marker capitalisation of Mahindra and Mahindra, which is INR 4.27 trillion, as of October 2025.
