Hero MotorCorp Limited was established on 19th January 1984 as Hero Honda Motors Limited, a joint venture between Hero Group and Japan’s Honda Motor Company. The company was founded to manufacture motorcycles and scooters for the Indian market. Its first motorcycle model was CD100, launched in 1985. Hero launched a 100cc motorcycle named Splendor in 1994, which became India’s best-selling motorcycle.
Hero expanded its portfolio to premium and commuter segments by launching newer models like CBZ and Passion in 1999-2000, and Karizma in 2004. Hero Honda Motors rebranded as Hero MotorCorp Limited after a split with Honda in the year 2011.
