Company Profile
Blaupunkt traces its origins to Ideal Telefon- & Apparatefabrik GmbH, founded in November 1923. The company initially produced headphones and used blue dot symbol or Blaupunkt in German for its tested products. It produced Europe’s first car radio in the year 1932. The company was acquired by Robert Bosch Group in 1933, which officially named it Blaupunkt in the year 1938.
Blaupunkt introduced the world’s first VHF car radio in 1952. Throughout the 1970s and 80s, the brand developed multiple automotive electronics, including in-dash CD player, traffic navigation system and traffic information receiver. Blaupunkt expanded to consumer electronics in the year 1996. In the year 2002, it pioneered web-linked navigation system for cars.
Robert Bosch Group sold Blaupunkt to Aurelius AG in the year 2009. In 2015-16 period, Blaupunkt became bankrupt and was liquidated. Blaupunkt’s brand rights were acquired by Established Inc., a US-based licensing firm, in 2023. At present, Blaupunkt products are produced and sold by over 50 licensees worldwide. Some examples are Evo-Sales GmbH in Germany for car audio systems, Super Plastronics Private Limited in India for TVs and HOMEMARK in Africa for TVs and appliances.
