Company Profile
Berger Paints was founded in the year 1760 by Louis Berger under the name Louis Berger and Sons. The company produced paints, varnishes and distempers. It established itself as a pioneer in paint production. In the year 1923, the company incorporated in India as Hadfield India Limited, setting up its base in Kolkata. It began producing ready-made paints, varnishes and distempers for the Indian market and established sales offices throughout India.
In the year 1947. Hadfield India Limited was acquired by British Paints Holdings and renamed British Paints India Limited. Ownership of the company was taken by Celanese Corporation of USA in 1965, followed by Berger Jenson Nicholson Limited in 1969. It was renamed Berger Paints India Limited in 1983.
Berger introduced the colour bank tinting system comprising of over 5000 customisable shades. By the 2000s, it had become the second-largest paint company in India by sales. Currently, Berger Paints India Limited operates 16 manufacturing plants in India, 2 in Nepal and 1 each in Russia, Poland and Pakistan. It has a network of over 160 dealers, sales offices and stock points across India.
