Asian Paints was founded as Asian Oil and Paint Company on 1st February 1942 by Champaklal Choksey, Chimanlal Choksi, Suryakant Dani and Arvind Vakil in Mumbai, Maharashtra, India. Capitalising on a temporary ban on paint imports during World War Two, the company grew rapidly, achieving an annual turnover of 23 crore rupees by the year 1952.
In the year 1965, the company renamed to Asian Paints (India) Private Limited. By the year 1967, it had become a leading paint manufacturer in India, particularly in the decorative paint sector. In the year 1973, the company was listed on stock exchange as Asian Paints Limited.
Asian Paints Limited launched Apco Coatings for the South Pacific market in the year 1978. In the year 2002, the company acquired Berger International in Singapore to expand its global footprint.
Asian Paints Limited is currently India’s largest and Asia’s third-largest paint brand. It operates 27 manufacturing facilities in 15 countries worldwide. The company owns premium decorative paint brands like Lux Indica and Royale Designer Palette.
