Company Profile
Maserati was founded on 1st December 1914 by Alfieri Maserati and his brothers Bindo, Carlo, Ettore and Ernesto. It began operations by manufacturing high-performance racing cars for private racers. Maserati was bought by industrialist Adolfo Orsi in 1937. Subsequently, the company shifted to road cars, launching its first grand tourer model, 3500 GT, in 1957, followed by luxury sedans like Quattroporte and Ghibli in 1963 and 1966 respectively.
Citroën acquired Maserati in 1968 but withdrew in 1975 and the brand was acquired by Alejandro de Tomaso. Newer models launched by Maserati in the 1960s and 70s included Bora, Kyalami and Quattroporte III. Fiat acquired Maserati in 1993. The brand entered the SUV market in 2016 with the launch of Levante.
Maserati was acquired by Fiat Chrysler Automobiles in 2017. With the formation of Stellantis by the merger of Fiat Chrysler Automobiles and PSA Group in 2021, Maserati is now under its ownership. Maserati manufactures most of its products in Modena, Italy, with some production of SUVs in Turin.
Origin Country
Maserati has its origins in Italy even though its ownership has changed over the years. Its vehicles are sold in over 70 countries worldwide. Key markets include North America, Europe, China and the Middle East.
Market Cap
Since Maserati is a wholly-owned subsidiary of Stellantis, it does not have an independent market capitalisation. Instead, its value is reflected in the market capitalisation of Stellantis. Market cap of Stellantis, as of October 2025, is 26.31 billion Euros.
