Company History
Honor was launched as a sub-brand of Huawei Technologies in the year 2013. The purpose behind launching Honor was providing high-spec devices at lower prices than Huawei’s main line-up and compete with mid-range online smartphone brands in China and abroad. The debut smartphone launched by the brand was Honor 3.
In the 2014-15 period, Honor launched multiple smartphone models, such as Honor 6, Honor 6 Plus and Honor 7 series. It became one of the top online smartphone brands in China. Honor also expanded to Europe and India during this period. In the year 2016, Honor launched Honor Magic and Honor 8, featuring curved display and AI assistant.
Honor became an independent business under the ownership of Huawei in the 2017. By the year 2019, Honor’s global shipments had reached 70 million. In May 2019, the US government imposed a ban on Huawei and its subsidiary, Honor. Huawei sold the entire Honor business to Shenzhen Zhixin New Information Technology Co. Limited in November 2020 to protect the brand against US sanctions.
Honor released Honor V40 in January 2021, which was its first smartphone as an independent company.
