Xiaomi or MI was founded on 6th April 2010 by Lei Jun and other co-founders. Its first product was a custom Android ROM, MIUI. Xiaomi launched its first smartphone, Xiaomi Mi 1, on 16th August 2011. The smartphone sold 300,000 units in 24 hours through online flash sales. Xiaomi launched Mi 2 smartphone model in the year 2012 and opened its first offline store in the same year.

In the year 2013, Xiaomi launched Mi 3 smartphone model and its first smart television named Xiaomi Smart TV. The company entered India and many other Southeast Asian countries in the year 2014. Redmi was launched as a sub-brand in the budget segment in the same year.
